It's finally January! This means that not only has the Overwatch League officially started its first season, but also that both casual and hardcore players of the game have some new goodies to look forwards to. January 23 is going to be our first big content drop of the year, introducing a new map, new Blizzard-themed skins, and new sprays! The best part is, all of this is simply new content that will be added to the loot boxes and base game, and will not be tied to any sort of event. This means that all this new content will be available year round and have stable pricing!
First up is the new map that's launching, Blizzard World! An Orlando Studios/Disney World theme park that takes place in the world of Overwatch. Blizzard is still a huge company, and all of their other games still exist, which allows players to enjoy what the worlds of Warcraft, Starcraft, Diablo, and Heroes of the Storm would look like in theme-park form.
Next, we have the announced skins that were shown alongside the Blizzard World map. New skins have officially been announced for Orisa, Torbjorn, Widowmaker, Doomfist, Zarya, Reinhardt, Roadhog, and Mei, with a few more being "leaked" by Blizzard through a recent tweet! The new skins are really exciting, as they're crossover skins from other Blizzard titles, something Overwatch developers said they would never do as they wanted to develop their own IP. This means there's still hope for Auriel Mercy!
The "leaked skins are the few below. It looks like Lucio, Pharah, DVa, and Hanzo will all be getting new legendary skins as well! Why leaked? Well, Blizzard is tweeting mini updates on what players can expect to launch January 23, and one of the new features is going to be all new sprays for players to collect. The sprays themselves are pretty cute, as they're styled after/with an artist who created similar art for New Year cards back in December. While many of the sprays feature heroes in their new skins, like Widowmaker and Reinhardt, some heroes are wearing skins never before seen or mentioned!
This makes players feel like these are definitely going to be skins either launching with the patch on the 23rd, or that they'll be skins coming out shortly afterwards. To top it off, players are also going to have new player icons available to collect! They follow with the chibi theme, being adorable little faces featuring the main skin of each hero. As usual, Sombra's is off-centered as her hair is such a huge part of her style, but they're all still super adorable! You can check out all the new sprays here! Personally, I'm the most excited for the Widowmaker Nova skin. She's the character I know best from the Starcraft universe, thanks to the manga and novels. These skins/sprays/portraits/emotes being added to the base part of the game is an excellent way to start off the new year, and I really hope Blizzard continues in this vein with more new content. What type of content are you looking forwards to the most? Post your answer in the comments below!
